For this project, I had two pretty specific goals: First off, make something that had 'length' to it, and visualized the spectrum along that length, and also use a fractal as a texture rather than a central theme. I really like the way the visualization turned out, mostly because the two goals were somewhat accomplished. With an artist as articulate and staccato as Cid Rim, It is pretty easy to pick out the main melodies in the visual, but what I love about this one is all the nuances that begin to emerge when you get noiser hits or see more reverb in the audio. The fractal texture also doesn't look too bad, but I think If I tried it again, I would probably not use the fractal because its just to computationally expensive for an effect that could probably be accomplish for much cheaper.
One thing that is really exciting about these sorts of experimental pieces is finding hidden structures within the piece. In this one, I really love the way that the triangle looks once you are inside the object. At first I thought it was a bug, but as with most of my bugs ( visual ones at least ) they usually make it into the finished project, because I feel like they have every right to be there, and usually add some extra rewards for the most curious users.
